Victory for Jos Menten and PK Carsport in 24 Hours of Spa!
Following a hard fought battle Jos Menten, together with his team-mates Anthony Kumpen, Mike Hezemans and Kurt Mollekens clocked up his first victory in the Total 24 Hours of Spa. This was in fact the final edition of the Ardennes’ endurance race in which the present GT1 cars could compete; however this is not the only reason why this race will be recorded in the annals of racing history. Menten and his cohorts truly revealed themselves as the trendsetters in this 61st edition of the Total 24 Hours of Spa. Up until four hours before the chequered flag they kept up a gruelling pace. Thrilling duels were fought out with the Corvette C6.R of Selleslagh Racing Team and the three Vitaphone Racing Maserati MC12, but the Corvette C6.R prepared by the renowned PK Carsport team finally came out on top as winners of this war of attrition!

Fourth row for PK Carsport in 24 Hours of Spa
The free practice and qualifying sessions were not a immediate success for PK Carsport. The Belgian team had prepared everything down to the finest details, but nobody had foreseen the apocalyptical weather conditions. The morning started off with a damp track which slowly dried out. Anthony Kumpen, Mike Hezemans and Jos Menten respectively took it in turn to sort out the set-up, but the Corvette C6.R wasn’t performing correctly: “The team usually starts off with a hard set-up, systematically softening it until the ideal is found. For the first half hour Anthony and Mike needed to tread carefully, calling in regularly in the pits for additional fine-tuning. Once the track started to dry out the car became far more stable”, Jos Menten told us. The Haelen based driver registered the third time, but once the heavens opened up again it was back to being highly cautious: “We still need to work on our wet set-up, but with these weather forecasts we’ll have time for that later on..”

Jos Menten with PK Carsport in 24 Hours of Spa
It all started back in 2003 with a Porsche straight out of the AD Sport stables, after which Menten switched over to the SRT Corvette C5-R, then opting for the newer C6.R- model in the colours of PSI Experience, to finally choosing the Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT of Reiter Engineering in 2007. Last year the Haelen based driver returned to the Corvette-clan, driving for the ultra professional Phoenix Carsport. An excellent result was on the books up until the Corvette – at that moment leading the race – caught fire as the result of a crash by one of Menten’s team-mates.

FIA GT Championship - Silverstone (United Kingdom): Review
Jos Menten and Markus Palttala managed to round off a difficult weekend in Silverstone with a seventh place. The Dutch-Finnish duo had to fight for three whole days with the Corvette C6.R’s difficult road handling. Normally the Corvette is a paragon example when it comes to handling, but in the United Kingdom the Corvette teams can’t seem to get it right. Tyre supplier Michelin proposed an exceptionally soft tyre for the opening round of the FIA GT championship but this didn’t turn out right for the teams with their powerful V8 engines under the bonnet. After a handful of laps the performance curve of the tyres disappeared into the abyss, resulting in heavy understeer.

FIA GT Championship - Silverstone (United Kingdom): Preview
Just four days before the start of the FIA GT championship’s opening round Jos Menten concluded an agreement with the Luxembourg DKR Engineering team. The 28 year young driver based in Haelen will be at the wheel of the powerful Corvette C6.R in the United Kingdom. This is the same car, and in fact the same chassis with which the Dutchman started off his international career back in 2006. Another constant in this story is Menten’s team-mate. The Finnish driver Markus Palttala also competed in this very same Corvette C6.R in 2006, at that time still active under the Belgian PSI Experience banner. These last few years the paths of Markus Palttala and Jos Menten have regularly crossed and not without success! In 2006 the duo clinched a third place in the 1000 km of Spa, and two years later they finished third in the high spot of the Belgian GT Championship; namely the Menzo 24 Hours of Zolder.
