The 75th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans promises to be another finger licking race. This last winter Jos Menten and his management team pulled out all the stops to steer the young driver from the Limburg towards the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With positive results, because for this legendary 24 Hours event Jos Menten will find himself at the wheel of an Aston Martin DBR9 entered by the British Modena Team. For the driver from Haelen this will be his first appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Aston Martin boasts a long tradition in legendary 24 Hour races at the Sarthe. British Racing Green is well represented in the Le Mans history books. The Team Modena Aston Martin will be manned by three drivers, of varied nationalities. Apart from the Dutch flag for Jos Menten the Brazilian and Spanish national flags will also be emblazoned on this British thoroughbred car’s bodywork. The 26 year old Dutchman will be teaming up with Christian Fittipaldi and Antonio Garcia in the team’s #59 Aston Martin DBR9. A homogenous trio, a reliable car and an experienced team … the ideal mix to battle it out with the works teams in the LMGT1-category!
“I was travelling on down to Bucharest for the third round of the FIA GT Championship when the Team Modena people contacted me. After that everything moved very rapidly. Graham Schultz and Rik Bryan had prepared a great proposal for me. To compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans defending the Aston Martin colours. On top of that my team mates are not just anyone! Antonio Garcia has already won his spurs in endurance racing and Christian Fittipaldi knows how to handle a car”, an enthusiastic Jos Menten commented. “For me this is a young man’s dream come true. We had worked hard in the quiet season to find a drive in the 24 Hours of Le Mans… and the result confirms it all!”
In the meanwhile Jos Menten has experienced his first test session with Team Modena. Yesterday morning Menten and Garcia travelled to Snetterton for a shakedown: “It is a matter of adapting. The Aston handles entirely differently to the Lamborghini I’m competing with in the FIA GT Championship. This is why I’m trying to get as many test kilometres under the belt as possible before we move on down to Le Mans. We’re going to exploit every single test possibility. I have nothing but praise for the team, and the Aston really is a great car to go racing with. I’m looking forward to discovering the car’s limits.”
"We are pleased to have Jos with us for Le Mans”, says Team Principal Graham Schultz. "From the test at Snetterton we now know he is not only a nice guy but quick as well. He has lots of 24-hour race experience, and we now have three really strong drivers that we have a lot of confidence in and should be right on the pace at Le Mans."
Over these last few years Team Modena has gained a fair amount of success in both the Le Mans Series as also the FIA GT Championship. Team Modena is entering three cars in 2007, in three different championships. An Aston Martin DBR9 in the Le Mans Series, a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 in the British GT Championship, and a BMW E46 in the CJ Korea GT Championship.
Next rendezvous at Le Mans on 3rd June for the official test day!
