Jos Menten with ProSpeed Competition in Spa 24 Hours
This coming weekend Jos Menten is competing in the 24 Hours of Spa. The Haelen-based driver, who found himself on the podium last year, will this time around be driving for the Belgian ProSpeed Competition team in this Belgian endurance race. On this occasion his choice of battle weapon will be the Porsche 911 GT3 R. Menten will be sharing the car from Weissach with his countryman Oskar Slingerland and his two southern neighbours Maxime Soulet and Julien Schroyen.

“ProSpeed Competition hardly needs any introduction”, is how Menten starts off his conversation. “The team run by Rudi Penders has enjoyed works support from Porsche for several years. The Porsche 911 GT3 R boasts excellent workmanship and my team mates are well versed with the tricks of the trade. This is an ideal venue to lay claim to victory in the class.”

A striking observation in Jos Menten’s career is that since 2005 he has always had the availability of GT1 material in Spa, however today this type of car is no longer welcome in the Belgian Ardennes endurance race. “At least not in the 24 Hours. The GT1s will be holding their World Championship race in a preliminary support race. The 24 Hours is reserved for cars of the GT2, GT3 and GT4 types. In our case we will be at the start with a GT3 car. Our intention is to give the GT2 cars, which theoretically are faster, a run for their money”, a combative Menten remarked.

“We’re not competing as mere extras on the grid, let there be no doubt about that. We have the potential to fight it out for victory in GT3. And if all the pieces fit into the puzzle we should also be aiming at a place in the top-five. It goes without saying that we will be facing strong competition from Audi and Ford in GT3, but Porsche’s legendary reliability could well just make the difference”, Menten commented looking ahead to the 24 Hours of Spa.

The qualifying sessions take place on Thursday. The start of the race will be given on Saturday afternoon at the foot of the Raidillon at 16.00hrs.
