Jos Menten to 24 Hours of Daytona with Matt Connolly Motorsports
After his victory in the Total 24 Hours of Spa everything remained quiet for Jos Menten. The 28 year old driver from Haelen had in fact put his motorsport activities on the backburner in order to concentrate on developing his professional career. But blood is thicker than water. For the first time in his motorsport career Menten will be travelling to America. Together with Markus Palttala, Oscar Slingerland and Christophe Lapierre the Dutchman will be taking on a new adventure in the United States with as sole assignment to come up trumps in the renowned 24 Hours of Daytona.
The quartet will be at the wheel of the Matt Connolly Motorsport (MCM) Porsche 997 GT3 Cup #20. MCM is entering three cars in Daytona, with two Porsches 997 GT3 Cup and a Pontiac GTO.R. For Jos Menten this will be his fourteenth 24 hours race. Following his various podium places in Zolder and Spa-Francorchamps he is now venturing his chances on the other side of the Atlantic. “America has always been high on my wish list. The opportunity has now offered itself and I’m grabbing it with both hands. The 24 Hours of Daytona race boasts an extremely unique character and has a long history behind it.”

What is unique within the team is that the line-up of the Porsche bearing number 20 is entirely comprised of Europeans. “We’re up against strong competition. America is known for its high quality level of both drivers and teams. The team’s ambition is to battle it out for the podium with all three cars. It’s now up to us to fulfil this ambition”, Jos Menten commented. There’s definitely no lack of driving experience for the drivers at the wheel of the #20. For Menten this is his fourteenth 24 hours race, and Palttala is now taking on his seventeenth endurance race. Slingerland and Lapierre have also earned their spurs on the international motorsport scene.

The 24 Hours of Daytona kicks off on 30th January 2010 at 15.30hrs local time. Eurosport 2 will broadcast over four hours of live action, starting at Saturday evening at 10pm until midnight. On Sunday the last two hours of the race are also broadcasted live. In the Dutch Ziggo-package (digital tv) Eurosport 2 is on channel number 411.
